Museum Herisau

The diverse aspects of the canton's cultural history, from the Middle Ages to the present day, are displayed in the former guildhall of Appenzell Ausserrhoden in the heart of Herisau.

Visitors will gain a fascinating insight into the «knights and castles» of Herisau, the development of regional transport or the idiosyncrasies of the Ausserrhoden system of cures. The exhibitions also contain unique objects illustrating the history of education and feature the exquisite painted furniture typical of the Appenzell region. Finally, the Robert Walser room shows original documents which afford a glimpse into the author’s time in Herisau and samples of his work.
