Data privacy statement

4. July 2019

This data privacy statement applies to the website of the Museums in the Appenzellerland, represented by Isabelle Chappuis, Museum Coordinator for the Canton Appenzell Ausserrhoden. Use of the website implies acceptance of the data privacy statement.

The protection of your data is important to us. We process personal data carefully and comply with the provisions of applicable data privacy legislation. You may obtain free information at any time on your data stored with us, as well as assert your right to rectification, blocking or deletion of your data. To do so, please contact Isabelle Chappuis at isabelle.chappuis@ar.ch.

General data processing information
We process the personal data you provide as well as data that is collected automatically or manually when you visit our website. Our primary reason for processing your personal data is stated in the survey, namely, for ordering our newsletter or answering your queries. We do not use your data for commercial purposes or sell them to third parties.

Handling automatically generated data on the website
Whenever the website of the Museums in Appenzellerland is accessed, the browser used transmits usage data stored in the so-called server log files. These data include the following: browser type and version, operating system used, referrer URL (the URL you used to get to the website), host name of accessing computer, time of server request, IP address. We evaluate these log file data records to fine-tune our website and make it more user-friendly, spot and correct errors faster, and manage server capacity. In addition, we use the log file data records to protect against attacks on the website. The data collected are anonymised, that is, they cannot be matched to specific individuals.

Use of cookies
For our part, we use so-called “cookies”. These are small text files that your Internet browser downloads and stores on your computer. They help us structure our Internet site for you as rationally as possible. These mostly concern so-called “session cookies”, which are deleted after your visit. However, some cookies provide information for automatic recognition of your IP address. The information thus obtained is used to optimise our offer and facilitate your access to our website. You can prevent the installation of cookies by setting your browser accordingly. However, when you block cookies certain functions on the website, such as choice of language, might not work properly.

Contact by e-mail
If you contact us by e-mail, we store the data you have provided (your e-mail address, possibly your name, address and phone number) for processing your inquiry. This information is communicated on a voluntary basis and with your consent. As this information concerns communication channels (e-mail address, phone number), you further expressly agree that we may contact you via this communication channel. Of course, you may withdraw your consent at any time. You may also request at any time that we delete the corresponding personal data.

Secure data transfer
The personal data you provide via the website form are transmitted via a secure connection in encrypted form. The security process used, SSL-Secure Sockets Layer, corresponds to state-of-the-art technology. An authorisation procedure is required to access the system. SSL encryption (indicated by https:// in the browser’s address bar) is a protocol for encrypting data during transmission from the web server to the browser. This transfer offers a particularly high level of security. During transmission, your personal data is encrypted between your computer and our SSL server using the SSL protocol.

Newsletter
If you would like to subscribe to our newsletter, we need an e-mail address from you as well as information that lets us check that you are the owner of the e-mail address and agree to receive our newsletter. To ensure consensual subscription, we use a double opt-in procedure, whereby you confirm via an activation link that you do indeed wish to subscribe to our newsletter. We then regularly send information on the museums in Appenzellerland to your e-mail address. You may at any time withdraw your consent to the storage of the data, the e-mail address and its use for the sending of the newsletter, for example by using the “Unsubscribe” link in the newsletter.

Changes
The data privacy statement can be adapted at any time without advance notice. The current version published on our website applies.
